End Criminal Justice Debt NC
In partnership with the NC Fines and Fees Coalition, Forward Justice launched the NC Campaign to End Criminal Justice Debt at the inaugural People’s Convening on Fines and Fees in Greensboro, bringing together directly impacted community members, advocates, and partners from across North Carolina to advance statewide advocacy and reform efforts around court debt, ability to pay, driver’s license suspensions, and other financial barriers created by the criminal legal system. The campaign helped lead to reforms including North Carolina’s Rule 28 ability-to-pay protections and the creation of the statewide 415 motion for relief from fines and fees.
