Covid Decarceration
We deeply believe people don’t belong in cages, especially during a global health crisis. In 2020, filed a lawsuit to protect the health and safety of the people inside our state prisons during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in a 2021 settlement that led to a population reduction to enable social distancing through the early release of 3,500 people who were elderly, pregnant, or immunocompromised. In addition they ensured PPE distribution, non-punitive isolation for sick individuals, and proper testing protocols. Although the pandemic is over, we continue our fight to end mass incarceration, eliminate death by incarceration, and stand against the prison industrial complex.
