Forward Justice and our sister Forward Justice Action Network are proud to announce the launch of two new projects: The Second Chance Federation (SCF) and Second Chance Federation Action (SCFA).
For nearly ten years you have trusted Forward Justice to deliver meaningful impact and to build lasting community, and together we have taken on some of the biggest fights across the South, making history and creating real change. That trust and partnership have brought us to this moment, and the evolution and next phase of this work.
The Second Chance Federation and Second Chance Federation Action will be led by Daryl Atkinson- via fiscal sponsorship from our longtime partner, Louisiana based nonprofit, VOTE. SCF and SCFA will support the restoration of civil and human rights for people with criminal records through law and policy advocacy, leadership development, community organizing, direct legal services, and reentry support.
Forward Justice will continue under the leadership of Co-Founders Caitlin Swain, Executive Director, and Dr. Ashley Marshall, Senior Director of Sustainability and Emergence, dedicated to our mission to advance racial, social, and economic justice in the U.S. South. Entering the 10-year anniversary, Forward Justice remains rooted in law, policy, and strategy, anchoring legal fights, shaping transformative policies, and aligning strategies across the ecosystem so that our communities can thrive.
By dividing our work between two entities we are sharpening focus, growing new capacity, and building the infrastructure our communities urgently need. In the context of all that is unfolding in the nation, we are reimagining our potential impact, and taking bold steps to shape our strategy informed by the challenges and opportunities of this moment in history.
We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us, which is the foundation of every victory and every step forward, and it is that same trust that makes this opportunity possible today.
We remain committed to the shared work of justice and liberation; and, together we will continue dismantling barriers, strengthening infrastructure, and building a South rooted in freedom, dignity, and justice.
